Cheddar, famous for its cheese, strawberries, cider, and of the course the Caves & Gorge, is located on the southern slopes of the Mendip Hills.  As well as the tourist attractions of the caves and gift shops in the gorge, the village offers many facilities including a wide selection of shops, supermarkets, banks and a chemist. There is a modern sports complex/ leisure centre with an indoor swimming pool in Cheddar.  You can also sample exciting rock sports through the Cheddar Caves & Gorge Ltd where supervised beginners sessions are available in caving, climbing or abseiling.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The surrounding countryside provides for a variety of recreational pursuits including sailing and windsurfing on the Axbridge Reservoir and fine country walks on the adjoining hills, all located in an area of outstanding natural beauty.  The area can also be explored by bicycle, which can be hired in the village, or even by pony trekking!
