The surrounding countryside provides for a variety of recreational pursuits including sailing and windsurfing on the Axbridge Reservoir and fine country walks on the adjoining hills, all located in an area of outstanding natural beauty.  The area can also be explored by bicycle, which can be hired in the village, or even by pony trekking!

Cheddar is ideally placed for exploring the south west region by car.  Cheddar is within easy reach of many Somerset attractions including the beautiful Wells Cathedral City, Glastonbury Tor & Abbey and Wookey Hole Caves to name a few.  Bristol with its museums, docks and shops; and Bath famous for its Georgian architect and Roman Baths; are both within easy drive and are not to be missed.  If you enjoy shopping, Street with it's famous Clark's factory discount shopping village is only 20 minutes away.

It is also only 20 minutes drive away from the coast, with a choice of stunning unspoilt beaches of Berrow and Brean or the tourist resorts of Weston Super Mare or Burnham on Sea.  Drive a little further on and you are in Devon where you can enjoy the rural delights of Exmoor and the North Devon coastline within an hours drive.

Come and stay in November and enjoy the stunning Somerset Carnival processions.  The carnivals are highly regarded as the largest illuminated procession in the world. They occur late on in the year at various locations including: Bridgwater, Burnham-on-Sea, Chard, Ilminster, Glastonbury, North Petherton, Shepton Mallet, Taunton, Wellington, Wells, Weston-Super-Mare, and Yeovil.   The carnivals in Somerset date back to 400 years, and are one of the most spectacular events in Somerset today.  Click here to go back to Home Page.
